Harmonies
Calm building, planning, and making room for others · Stage 1 to 2 (BGT suggestion)
What the Game Is
A calm token-placing game. Players take colored tokens from a shared central board to build their own landscape, then settle animals where the landscape matches the habitat on an animal card.
Why It Works at a Table
Harmonies is quiet and absorbing. Every player builds their own landscape, so there is no direct conflict, yet everyone draws from the same five token spaces, which creates gentle moments of noticing what others might need. Animals ask players to plan a few turns ahead and to accept that a token placed now shapes what is possible later. The finished boards look different for every player, which makes an easy, low-pressure prompt for talking about choices and priorities.
Try One Variation
Leave one for a neighbor (BGT house rule, not an official rule). Once per game, each player may name a central space they will leave for the next player because it fits that player's landscape.
- Targets: Noticing others
- Suits: Groups working on empathy and noticing needs
- Watch for: Keep it optional; never pressure.
- Debrief prompt: “What was it like to give or receive that space?”
The TABLE Method™, Applied
A short excerpt from the full guide's TABLE plan. Anyone can pass, pause, or stop at any time.
Target
Notice how players plan ahead, whether they notice others at the shared central board, and how they talk about their finished landscape.
Assess
Check the player count, the time, and whether the game serves today’s goal.
- Can everyone handle small wooden tokens and cubes? Use a tray or the box lid to keep pieces steady.
Build
- Use side A of the Personal boards and leave the Nature's Spirit cards in the box for first plays.
- Explain that everyone builds their own board and that taking a space someone wanted is normal.
Lead
- Model one turn out loud, naming why you chose a space.
- Point out the color stripes on Animal cards and suggest choosing cards with different colors early on, as the rulebook recommends.
Extract and Extend
Debrief in order: Board, Self, Us, Life or Work, Extension. Ask what participants make of the game. Do not tell them.
